“I always added sugar to my coffee; but I followed your recommendation and finally took the plunge to drink it without. For that, I started with Honduras as you suggested: mate, that was a game changer!
You were completely right when you told me ‘if the coffee is good, there is no need to add sugar at all’. Now I even taste more and more notes with every coffee I try”

From our farmers
Currently the biggest producer of coffee in Central America, and the earliest record of the bean being introduced here dated back to 1804, Honduras is a synonym of excellent-quality origin. Around 110.000 families are involved in the production of coffee across the 6 regions in country, being Copán the specific source of this bean. Copán is geographically located in the west, bordering Guatemala, and regions like this reminds of the importance of focusing on exactly where a coffee is from rather than simply its country of origin.
Our coffee bean comes from COCAMOL, the Cooperativa Cafetaleta Mercedes Ocotepequ Limitada that was founded in 1997 with 21 founding members, and has since grown to 51 members, 21 of whom are women. Providing women with good access to the market and a sustainable livelihood as equal to men is very important in many Latin American countries and also for us in Gufo Nero.
Through the cooperation in the Fair Trade and organic certified cooperative, the families have been able to increase the quality and the production volume of the coffee and have better access to the market, which is central to their living conditions.
