About Gufo Nero

Looking back and connecting some dots, Gufo Nero started getting shape in July 2022 after buying my very first machine, an analog entry price bar well home roaster that has only 1 variable to play with: temperature (ok, let´s be grateful with it and add another one, which is airflow if we count the lit).

And the decision back in the days was not to set up a company but to roast my own coffee at home and to have fun. I still remember my face and excitement when I would put the first batch of beans into the roaster and staring to that bar turning over an over again, listening carefully to the contact between each other.

6 months later, as soon as I came back from my X-Mas holidays in Argentina, I made the decision and purchased a proper drum coffee roaster with the serious intention of creating my own brand some day in a mid-term future; but without even expecting it, one thing led to the other and, almost a year later, here I am: being a proud founder and owner of Gufo Nero Rösterei, a micro-coffee roastery that was created to share with you all the love and passion each person involved in the cup you are enjoying.

At the same time, this project is a living proof that you can achieve whatever you like in your life, independently if you are far away from home in an unknown market.

Why did I use Italian “Gufo Nero” lIving in Germany?

As an expat, I wanted to link the historic Italian association of coffee with the love I feel for my second home, Germany; this is why I use the term “Rösterei” in the main brand logo.

Lastly, I chose English for all my product descriptions as it is the most global language, so it’s accessible to almost everyone.

And why the black owl?

This coffee roastery started during the nights (and it is still like this most of the time!) when my kids went to bed.

So, while everyone was sleeping, I was still awake, crafting the profile of each coffee bean to bring the love and dedication of each farmer to your cup, and taking you on a mental journey to that specific country, even for a couple of minutes.
